oHi!
Violet here. Ok, so I know we’rein school, and there’s less time to read, but for the New Year (woo-hoo 2021!!!) I want to read one book (book, not graphic novel) every week. And it’s winter, perfect time for cozying up with a good book 🥶❄️☃️📖. So, I decided to make a list of books I personally love and would recommend. Most are realistic fiction (my favorite genre 😝), but some are a bit whimsical. I would recommend checking some out from the library! (Obviously, I guess, since I’m recommending them :p )
Let’s go!!!!
1. Drum Roll, Please
A young girl named Melly goes to music camp with her BFF, Olivia. There, she meets a girl named Adeline, who she befriends. Melly learns to put passion into playing the drums, speak up, and be herself. Filled with unexpected feelings and twists, friendship, and fights, this book is one of my absolute favorites!!!
2. Raffie on the Run
Raffie, a mouse who lives in a subway, goes on an adventure to find his lost brother. On the way, he is joined by a pigeon, who helps him with his search, and meets all sorts of animals!
3. Orphan Island
I’ve reread this like, a million times! Jinny lives on Orphan Island, an island where orphans live together, and every year the eldest leaves, and a new comes on a mysterious boat. Every new kid is taken care of and trained by the new eldest. When it is Jinny’s turn, she takes care of a young girl named Effie. But every day she wonders what will happen when she leaves…
4. Ivy Aberdeen’s Letter to the World
Ivy Aberdeen’s life is turned around when a hurricane rips through her home, destroying it. She manages to save her notebook, with her drawings of her and… well, girls. Ivy soon meets June, and they become quick friends. Ivy’s precious notebook is soon lost, though she does get pages of it along with notes in her locker often. As Ivy struggles with her feelings and life, her world slowly changes around her.
5. The Diary of Anne Frank
A true story, this is the diary of a young girl named Anne, who has to live in the concealed attic of a building with her family, for she is Jewish and the Nazis were sending Jews to concentration camps. Great book <3
6. Middle School’s a Drag – YOU BETTER WERK!
Mikey Pruitt has his own business- Anything inc. (As the name suggests, it specializes in… everything) When Mikey meets with a boy named Julian, who’s a drag queen, he signs him and becomes his agent, along with other’s. Eager to have Julian/Miss Coco Caliente, Mistress of Madness and Mayhem win his school’s end of year talent show, they work to perfect Julian’s act. Along the way they make new friends, learn lessons, and learn about themselves.
